Nubya Garcia proudly announces a new string of US shows, her first set of performances in the U.S. since 2019 and the release of her critically acclaimed album Source. The upcoming dates include support for Khruangbin, a headlining show at NYC’s famed Le Poisson Rouge, and an appearance at the Big Ears Festival.
The new tour dates will bring Garcia to acclaimed venues including Radio City Music Hall in New York and The Met in Philadelphia. The tour is a run that’s long overdue for the composer and tenor saxophonist, who originally planned to tour the States in 2020 but was waylaid by the pandemic. Her Tiny Desk Concert offers a glimpse into her mesmerizing performances.
Source was released in August 2020 and led to much acclaim for her incredible sax compositions. Essence described its contents as akin to “experiencing the contrast and colors of living the fast life.” It landed on multiple year end lists including Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, NPR, and Allmusic, while also garnering a prestigious Mercury Prize nomination.
In 2021, she shared a remix album, SOURCE ⧺ WE MOVE, a reimagining of a record that already explored new horizons for jazz itself. To bring this vision to life, she teamed up with other music and jazz innovators including Nala Sinephro, Georgia Anne Muldrow, and Moses Boyd to name a few.
