April 21, 2023 – Today, saxophonist and composer Nubya Garcia released the Amazon Original “Rude Boy/It’s Love,” an inspired mash-up of Prince Jammy and Lee “Scratch” Perry’s dub classic “Rude Boy” and “It’s Love,” a deep cut from Jill Scott’s groundbreaking debut album. Garcia lays a fluid and sinuous saxophone melody over percussive keyboard and drum flourishes that seamlessly blend the two songs into a stirring, intoxicating sonic collage.

“I have been incredibly inspired by the music of both Jill Scott and Prince Jammy (now known as King Jammy) for such a long time. I thought it would be amazing to see how it felt to combine their music and add my own sound to it,” said Garcia. “Think big sound-system, feeling the bass in your chest, everyone dancing, your community all out in celebration of

each other, living in their truth…those are the energies I wanted to bring to this: upliftment, enjoyment, and a celebration of love from your soul.”

Fans can hear Nubya Garcia’s Amazon Original on the The Pocket playlist or by simply asking “Alexa, play the Amazon Original from Nubya Garcia in the Amazon Music app for iOS and Android, and on Alexa-enabled devices. About Nubya Garcia:

Nubya Garcia is a multi-award-winning saxophonist and composer and a fixture in London’s burgeoning jazz community. Her debut album SOURCE, described by the New York Times as funneling “a life’s worth of experiences into an hour long listen,” entered the UK charts in the top 30 and was shortlisted for the prestigious Mercury Prize.

Writing in Pitchfork, Andy Beta proclaimed, “No matter where she appears, she brings an exploratory, energized spirit, always playing in service to the song, never overshadowing the music, only elevating the proceedings.”

In 2022, Garcia toured the US in support of Khruangbin, performing at sold-out venues including New York City’s Radio City Music Hall, Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, and Philadelphia’s The Met. Her subsequent headline tour saw her play to capacity crowds at venues such as The Salt Shed, Le Poisson Rouge, and The Ford, and at festivals including Glastonbury, Love Supreme, Pickathon, and Newport Jazz.

This March, London Brew – a group featuring Garcia and other leading lights of London’s jazz scene – released their self-titled album, which has met with global acclaim.
